When a 1 MB image is useful

A 1 MB file can suit high-resolution uploads with a one-megabyte limit. Check the receiving site's actual limit and required pixel dimensions; file size alone does not determine whether an image will look sharp.

How to reach the target

The compressor searches lossy quality settings for the selected JPEG or WebP format. If the source is large or detailed, the requested size may not be achievable at acceptable quality. Reduce pixel dimensions first, then compare the preview before downloading.

Formats and quality trade-offs

JPEG and WebP are available in this target-size workflow. Lossy compression can soften detail or create artifacts, especially in text, fine edges, and gradients. Keep an original copy and inspect the preview at the size where it will be used.

A practical workflow

A 1 MB ceiling may not require aggressive compression for a small image. Keep the source dimensions appropriate to where the image will appear.
